PAs are licensed to perform medical tasks, such as taking medical histories, performing physical exams, ordering tests, prescribing medications, and assisting in surgeries. What you'll get to do...

  • Conduct Patient Assessments – Take medical histories, perform physical exams, and assess patient conditions.
  • Diagnose and Treat Conditions – Diagnose illnesses, develop treatment plans, and prescribe medications under the supervision of a physician.
  • Assist in Surgeries – Participate in surgical procedures, assisting surgeons in the operating room.
  • Order and Interpret Tests – Order laboratory tests, imaging, and other diagnostic procedures; interpret results to make informed decisions.
  • Provide Patient Education – Educate patients on their conditions, treatment options, and preventative care measures.
  • Monitor and Follow Up – Track patient progress, adjust treatment plans as needed, and provide follow-up care.
  • Collaborate with Healthcare Teams – Work alongside doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Administer Procedures – Perform minor medical procedures, such as suturing wounds, draining abscesses, or administering injections.

Your experience should include...

  • Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies – Complete a master’s program from an accredited school (typically 2-3 years of education).
  • Clinical Training – Extensive hands-on clinical experience in various medical specialties, gained through rotations during PA school.
  • Licensure – Pass the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE) to become certified, and obtain state licensure to practice.
  • Medical Knowledge – Solid understanding of anatomy, pharmacology, medical procedures, and patient care techniques.
  • Strong Communication Skills – Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities – Ability to assess patient symptoms, diagnose conditions, and develop treatment plans effectively.
